Create a Bug Report

Bug reports tend to waste a lot of time when they are not reported correctly. Let’s make sure we know how to create a stellar bug report so our team can move on those items quickly.

Marker

This is our standard. If it is an active client, you should use Marker.io to submit the bug report. First off, download the browser extension and sign in. Navigate to the website that has an issue, and you should see a tab on the right side of the screen to submit a report. If you do not see one, add ?bug to the end of the URL. For example:

evangel.edu/about-us → evangel.edu/about-us?bug

If a tiny tab still does not appear, please contact that project’s Project Manager and request it be installed.

Once the screenshot has been taken, ensure you give the appropriate information:

  1. Draw on the screenshot to call attention to the problem
  2. 1-3 sentence description of what is happening
  3. 1-3 sentence description of the desired outcome (or acceptance criteria)

Freehand

If you have to submit a bug report without using Marker.io, you need to follow these steps:

  1. All the details listed out below must be inside of an Asana task within the client’s project
  2. Description field of the task:
    1. 1-3 sentence description of what is happening
    2. 1-3 sentence description of the desired outcome (or acceptance criteria)
    3. Screenshot or Loom video to show the problem that is happening (please try and keep this less than 2 minutes)
    4. URL of a page that this is happening on
  3. Due Date: when should this be completed by?
  4. Type: What type of problem is this?
  5. Effort: roughly how many points is this problem?

Assignee: do this last – assign it to the person who needs to process the change (doing this last will ensure the person doesn’t get bombarded with notifications)
